Matthew Hudson, president of the Fort Worth League of Neighborhoods, sends along this e-mail about an October 23 meeting:
Now that urban gas drilling has been a reality in our city for some time, what are the people saying who agreed in the first phases and currently have drilling underway in their neighborhood?
This event is designed to give you a balanced view of this issue and even provide you with a PowerPoint presentation you can take back to use in your neighborhood meetings.
This presentation will aid you in helping guide your NA or HOA in making the right decision for your neighborhood.
We will have industry experts, neighborhood leaders and evenCity Council members presenting - so you will not want to miss this one.
While this event is focused on the NA and HOA presidents, all are welcome.
So, don’t sign that lease just yet - you may want to know the rest of the story first!
The meeting is at 6:30 p.m., October 23 at University Christian Church, Room 211.
Check out the League of Neighborhoods’ Web site.

Five of Crestwood’s most beautiful kitchens will be on display during the 12th Annual Communities In Schools Kitchens Tour on Saturday, November 3. A $30 ticket ($35 at the door) gets you in the door, gives you a taste of a little gourmet food and gives you a chance to hob-knob with some of Fort Worth’s most famous chefs. It also benefits Communities In Schools, a community-based network that promotes keeping kids in school.

It’s hard to keep up with all the gas drilling news lately. But this may help. The Star-Telegram has started a Barnett Shale blog that’s updated often with all the gas drilling news, and we’ve updated our gas drilling page to include the newest headlines from their blog. Look for it down the right side of the page.
News of note today: The city has granted Chesapeake Energy a permit to drill at the “Trinity Trees” site near the river and University Drive.
